An ICFO project wins the first award as the Best Business Idea in the UPC-INNOVA program competition

The project called 'Radiant' is an idea of Majid Ebrahim-Zadeh, ICREA Research Professor at ICFO

May 29, 2004

The INNOVA committee has selected an ICFO project called "RADIANT" as the best high-tech Business Idea, in a competition which is organized every year by UPC-INNOVA Program and the Business Administration School, EAE.

"RADIANT", developed by Majid Ebrahim-Zadeh, ICREA Research Professor at ICFO, is the seed of a future high-tech company dedicated to design, develop and commercialize a new generation of modern and innovative optical instruments that can offer a wide range of applications in environment, industry and medicine. Gas detection and pollution monitoring in urban areas, industrial process control, skin therapy and optical surgery are just some examples of the uses that these instruments can have.

The motivation for the creation of the company is the current global need for new optical technologies to overcome the severe limitations of existing systems that are already available on the world market. The focus of RADIANT is to commercialize a particular class of photonic instruments, known as Optical Parametric Oscillators (OPOs) that will surpass the capabilities of many of the existing technologies, hence opening up a far broader range of current and future markets.

RADIANT has been formed as a response to a central goal of ICFO, which is economic development through commercial enterprise in new technologies that are competitive at the highest international level.
