ICFO PhD students start an OSA Student Chapter

The mission is to participate in the worldwide Photonics community

March 09, 2005
ICFO PhD students will start during the next days the first student chapter of the Optical Society of America located in southern Europe. The ICFO Student Chapter, recognized by OSA this March, will be composed initially by 17 members, all of them ICFO doctorate students in Barcelona, coming from very different nationalities.

OSA's mission is to promote the generation, application and archiving of knowledge in optics and photonics and to disseminate this knowledge worldwide. In Europe, such mission is accomplished in part in collaboration with the European Optical Society and with the European Physical Society (Quantum Electronics and Optics Division).

Behind the ICFO students’ chapter, the main motivations are to enhance the career opportunities for the students, by getting them exposed to the worldwide Photonics community and by the promotion of educational activities on a long term. Amongst the activities that the chapter will organize to accomplish its functions there are seminars by academic and industrial speakers, laboratory tours and academic competitions.
