New ICFOnians

Twelve new ICFOnians joined the different ICFO research groups, units and facilities during the month of January. Welcome aboard!

February 14, 2017
Five visiting scientists, Martin Leahy, Daniel Cano, Ding Liu, Martí Perarnau, and Antonio Picon, two postdocs, Daniel Rodrigo-Lopez and Emilio Pisanty , one research engineer, Felix Tebbenjohanns , one Ph.D. student, Dario Lago , one visiting Ph.D. student, Martina Pesaresi, and two members of Management, Albert Ros and Maria Jesús Moreno, have joined ICFO in the month of January 2017.

Martin Leahy, who obtained his PhD degree in Biomedical Optics in 1996 from the University of Oxford (UK) has joined the Medical Optics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Turgut Durduran as a visiting scientist. He is chair of Applied Physics at NUI Galway, Ireland.

Antonio Picon, who obtained his PhD degree in Theoretical Physics in 2008 from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona is joining the Attoscience and Ultrafast Optics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Jens Biegert as a visiting scientist. At ICFO, he will be working with X-ray physics and electron dynamics.

Daniel Cano holds a PhD degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Tübingen (DE). He has joined the Quantum Nano-Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Frank Koppens as a visiting scientist. During his stay, he will be focusing on quantum photonics with graphene.

Ding Liu obtained his PhD in Computational Linguistics from Tsinghua University (CN). He joined the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Antonio Acín as as visiting scientist. During his stay at ICFO, he will explore the use of numerical techniques for quantum information processing.

Martí Perarnau, who obtained his PhD degree at ICFO in June of 2016, is once again coming back to ICFO to join the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Antonio Acín as a visiting scientist.

Daniel Rodrigo-López, who graduated in 2013 with a PhD in Telecommunications from the Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya, is joining the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a postdoctoral fellow.

Emilio Pisanty, who has a PhD degree in Controlled Quantum Dynamics from the Imperial College London, is joining the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Maciej Lewenstein as a postdoctoral fellow. He will focus his research on atto-nanophysics.

Felix Tebbenjohanns, who obtained his MSc in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at ETH Zurich (CH), is now joining the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a research engineer. At ICFO, he will be working on the development of electronic boards for various opto devices.

Dario Lago, who obtained a MSc in Photonics from the Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya and ICFO, has joined the Quantum Photonics with Solids and Atoms research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Hugues de Riedmatten as a PhD student. At ICFO, he will be centering his PhD studies on entanglement of remote solid-state quantum memories.

Martina Pesaresi, who is pursuing a PhD degree from the Centre for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona, has joined the Advanced Fluorescence Imaging and Biophysics group led by ICFO Prof. Melike Lakadamyali to continue her PhD studies.

Maria Jesús Moreno Fortes, who holds an International Commerce CFGS, joins the ICFO Financial Coordination unit and will be in charge of Travel support.

Albert Ros, who holds a MSc in Science Communication from the Pompeu Fabra University, is now joining the Corporate Communications unit and will be in charge of managing and coordinating the ICFO Alumni community.
