New ICFOnians

Twenty-one new ICFOnians joined the different ICFO research groups, units and facilities during the month of June. Welcome aboard!

Three visiting scientists, Victor Vysloukh, David Merino, and Nobanathi Maxakato, one visiting PhD student, Soonhoe Lim, one visiting student, Gabriel Torregrosa, and sixteen summer fellows Gabriel Torregrosa, Adrian Suner, Sergi Masot, Alba Romero, Alberto Muñoz, Alvaro Ortega, Anicet Tibau, Arnau Bertran, Asier Alvarez, Javier Prada , Joan Bernabeu , Laia Domingo, Manuel Fernadez, Maria Delgado, Marti Martinez de Morentin, Oriol Rubies , and Ruben Arjona, have joined ICFO in the month of June.

Victor Vysloukh, who is a professor in the Universidad de las Américas-Puebla in Mexico, has joined the Nonlinear Optical Phenomena research group led by ICFO Prof. Lluis Torner as a visiting scientist. He will be collaborating with the group during his research stay.

David Merino, researcher from the UOC, is joining the SLN facility led by Pablo Loza as a visiting scientist. During his stay at ICFO, he will be collaborating with several projects in adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscope.

Nobanathi Maxakato, who holds a PhD degree in Chemistry from 2012 and is a lecturer and research fellow at the University of Johannesburg, is coming to ICFO to join the Organic Nanostructured Photovoltaics research group led by ICFO Prof. Jordi Martorell as a visiting scientist. At ICFO, she will be working on the electro-catalytic properties of platinum alloy-carbon nanodot composite materials as electrodes in direct alcohol fuel cells.

Soonhoe Lim, who holds an MSc in Applied Mathematics from the University of Arizona and now is pursuing a PhD in Applied Mathematics, is joining the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Maciej Lewenstein as a visiting PhD student to work in several collaborative projects related to Brownian motion.

Gabriel Torregrosa, a BSc student in Physics from the Universitat de València, has joined the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Antonio Acín as a visiting student.

Adrian Suner, BSc student who is pursuing a degree in Physics and Chemistry from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, has joined the Medical Optics research group led by ICREA Prof. at Turgut Durduran as a summer research fellow.

Sergi Masot, a BSc student in Physics and Mathematics, Universitat de Barcelona, is spending this summer at ICFO also working with the Medical Optics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Turgut Durduran as a summer research fellow.

Alba Romero, a BSc student pursuing a degree in Physics from the Universidad de La Laguna, has joined the Nanophotonics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Javier Garcia de Abajo as a summer research fellow.

Alberto Muñoz, who is pursuing a degree in Physics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, has joined the Ultracold Quantum Gases research group led by Prof. at ICFO Leticia Tarruell as a summer research fellow.

Alvaro Ortega, a BSc student from the double major program in Mathematics and Physics engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, will be spending his summer at ICFO working with the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Antonio Acín as a summer research fellow.

Anicet Tibau, a BSc student from the double major program in Physics and Mathematics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, has joined the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Antonio Acín as a summer research fellow.

Arnau Bertran is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Physics and in Chemistry from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and will be spending the summer at ICFO working with the Functional Optoelectronic Nanomaterials research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Gerasimos Konstantatos as a summer research fellow.

Asier Alvarez, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from the University of Basque Country and is now pursuing an MSc in Advanced Materials from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, has joined the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri this summer as a research fellow.

Javier Prada, who is pursuing a BSc student in Physics from the Universidad de Salamanca, has joined the Ultrafast Optical Dynamics of Solids research group led by Prof. Simon Wall as a summer research fellow.

Joan Bernabeu, who is obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Universitat de València, will be working on the Quantum Engineering of Light research group led by ICFO Prof. Juan P. Torres as a summer fellow.

Laia Domingo, who is pursuing a degree in Physics and Mathematics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), has joined the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Antonio Acín to do research as a summer fellow.

Manuel Fernandez, who is pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, will be working this summer with the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a summer research fellow.

Maria Delgado, who is pursuing a degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Barcelona, is also joining this summer the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri to work as a summer research fellow.

Martí Martínez de Morentin, who is pursuing a double degree in Physics Engineering and Engineering of Industrial Technologies from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, is joining the Attoscience and Ultrafast Optics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Jens Biegert as a summer research fellow.

Oriol Rubies, who is also pursuing a double Bachelor’s degree in Physics Engineering and Engineering of Industrial Technologies from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, will be spending the summer at ICFO working with the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Maciej Lewenstein working as a summer research fellow.

Ruben Arjona, who is obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, has joined the Attoscience and Ultrafast Optics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Jens Biegert as a summer research fellow.
