Graphene 2019 attracts experts from research and industry

ICFO and ICN2 represent BIST’s strategic Graphene Program

June 27, 2019

Each year, experts from research and industry gather to work towards integrating new graphene technologies into industrial applications at the largest European event in Graphene and 2D material event, the Graphene Conference. This year, Rome (IT) hosts the conference from 25-28 June, where ICFO Professors Frank Koppens and Dmitry Efetov as well as ICFOnians Stijn Gossens, Antoine Reserbat-Plantey, Jianbo Yin, and Iacopo Torre, will deliver talks, participate in and chair workshops over the course of the four days.

ICFO participates in the conference and exhibition space under the BIST umbrella, with the first ever action to promote BIST’s strategic Graphene program in a presentation in the Industrial track of the conference (Thursday 27 June).

The exhibition space (25-27 June) will showcase technologies from BIST centers, including the following ICFO contributions:

    • Graphene based UV sensor patch to measure exposure to harmful sunlight.
    • Demonstrator of the THEIA model, a BIST Ignite project which brings together the expertise of BIST partners ICFO, ICN2 and IFAE in the fields of microscopy, graphene and medical instrumentation towards the development of the next generation of retinal prosthesis technology.

Taking advantage of the specialized conference audience, ICFO and ICN2 will promote Graphene and 2D related positions, potentiating direct interactions between interested candidates and the Group Leaders with openings in their groups.

Likewise, in B2B meeting where participants have short meetings with industries with the goal of finding synergies and exploring opportunities for collaboration, ICFO will seek to expand industrial relationships that may help to usher advances made at ICFO from the laboratory into society.

This activity is co-funded by the European Regional Development Funds (ERDF) allocated to the Programa operatiu FEDER de Catalunya 2014-2020, with the support of the Secretaria d’Universitats i Recerca of the Departament d’Empresa i Coneixement of the Generalitat de Catalunya for emerging technology clusters devoted to the valorization and transfer of research results (GraphCAT 001-P-001702).
