New ICFOnians

Sixteen new ICFOnians joined the different ICFO research groups, units and facilities during the month of July. Welcome aboard!

August 09, 2019

Tobias Grass, who holds a PhD in Photonics from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Barcelona, is joining ICFO again as a research fellow in the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Maciej Lewenstein. During his stay, Tobias will focus on realizing research on quantum many body systems in AMO and condensed matter physics. 511

Alessandro Seri has also recently obtained his PhD degree at ICFO within the Quantum Photonics with Solids and Atoms led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Hugues de Riedmatten. Alessandro has changed position and will continue working within the same research group as postdoctoral researcher.

Daniel Benedicto, who obtained his PhD in Physics, University of Birmingham, in United Kingdom, is joining the Atomic Quantum Optics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Morgan Mitchell as a postdoctoral researcher. At ICFO, he will be conducting the experimental development of the rubidium spinor condensate experiment, quantum optics and atomic physics experiments with the spinor condensate.

Ozlem Yavas has recently defended her PhD degree at ICFO within the research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Romain Quidant and is now remaining in that group as a postdoctoral researcher, continuing her research in the field. 993

Renwen Yu has obtained his PhD degree recently at ICFO within the Nanophotonics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Javier García de Abajo. He will also be staying at ICFO with a postdoctoral postion working in the same group and conducting research in the same field.

Zhuoran Wang, who has obtained his PhD degree in Materials Engineering from McGill University in Canada, is now joining the Functional Optoelectronic Nanomaterials research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Gerasimos Konstantatos as a postdoctoral researcher. At ICFO, he will focus his research on the development of environmentally friendly solution processed thin film solar cells.

Sandra Diefenbach, who received her PhD degree in Physics from the Technical University Munich in Germany is now joining the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a research engineer. At ICFO, her main tasks will involve working on nanophotonics within large field of view lens-free differential interference contrast microarray (LIM) imager team together with researchers Roland Terborg, Ewelina Wajs, and Luc Duempelman.

Sumana Chetia, who received obtained her BSc-MSc Dual in Physics from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, in India, is joining the Medical Optics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Turgut Durduran as a PhD student. At ICFO, she will be conducting her doctoral studies on PhD diffuse optics techniques, in particular on speckle statistics for blood flow measurements.
