11 February 2020 2020 International Day of Women and Girls in Science

From February 11th through March 8th ICFOnians will celebrate an entire month dedicated to Women in Science In 2016, the United Nations Member States declared 11th February the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in an effort to recognize the critical role that women and girls play in science and technology around the globe.

At ICFO, we acknowledge that there is a lot of work to be done to improve the gender balance in our field and at our institution, from encouraging more inquisitive young women to join our scientific pursuits to making science a more welcoming place where diversity flourishes. With these goals in mind, ICFO holds an annual month-long initiative, ICFONians for WOMEN IN SCIENCE MONTH, kicking-off on the 11th February and closing on 8th March, International Women’s Day. ICFO’s celebration aims to highlight women’s accomplishments while examining the current reality for women pursing scientific careers.

ICFOnians are encouraged to participate in activities ranging from scientific colloquia to interactive discussions and debates that seek to broaden perspectives, examine biases, and highlight contributions made by women to the scientific enterprise.

By equitably promoting talent in all its diverse forms, we prioritize excellence in science.
