Prof. Roy Glauber in El País

November 20, 2007
El País, the national newspaper, features today an interview with Prof. Roy Glauber, 2005 Nobel Prize in Physics during his visit to ICFO.

Prof. Glauber visited ICFO from the 7th to the 13th of September. The direct purpose of his visit was a collaboration with Prof. Maciej Lewenstein and his group. At ICFO, Prof. Lewenstein and Prof. Glauber worked together in quantum optics and its applications for quantum computation, superfluidics, etc.

In his interview, Prof Glauber shares with us his first high school experiences with science, and his participation almost 60 years ago in the Manhattan secret project which later led to the atomic bomb. He also describes the focus of his trip to Barcelona: a collaboration with ICFO's Prof. Maceij Lewenstein and his group in the understanding and description of the behavior of ultracold atoms with potential applications in for example ultra-precise atomic clocks. He explains how atomic clocks have allowed the existence of the GPs technology.
