Prof. Romain Quidant receives the award in the Young Talent category Yesterday, April 28th, the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRi), with support from the Government of Catalonia, celebrated the National Research Awards, aimed to promote the recognition of science, with a particular focus on educating Catalan society on the scientific activity carried out by researchers working here.

The opening words were given by Antoni Esteve i Cruella, President of the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation, who gave an overview of the frontier research that is being conducted in Catalonia. Subsequently the prizes were given to the awardees, who included Prof. Dr. Lourdes Ibánez, winner of the National Research Award; ICREA Prof. at ICFO Romain Quidant, winner for the Young Talent category, The Fundación Botín in the category of Scientific Patronage; the Consorci Residència d’Investigadors CSIC - Generalitat de Catalunya in the category of Scientific Communication; and the company Matgas 2000 AIE, with the participation of Carburos Metálicos, CSIC and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), in the category of Public-Private partnerships.

The president of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Hble Mr. Artur Mas, offered the keynote address, emphasizing, among other issues, the rapid advances made in Catalonia over the past 25 years- just one generation- thanks to continuity in Catalonia’s support of scientific excellence.

The 2014 National Research Award in the Young Talent category is given each year to encourage and recognize the efforts of young researchers who stand out for the quality and excellence of their scientific work and research.
