Sabbaticals at ICFO for 2 senior African scientists The Women for Africa Foundation, a private entity aimed at contributing to the sustainable development of Africa through the drive of its women, announced in April 2015 an exciting call offering fellowships for nine senior African women scientists to spend a six month sabbatical in a top Spanish research center. The specific focus for these fellowships will be in the area of health, agriculture and food security, water, energy or climatic change.

The Women for Africa Foundation has just announced the results of this call. ICFO will proudly welcome two scientists to our institute, both of whom will share their knowledge and experience with their groups and the ICFO community in general.

  • Dr. Mangaka Matoetoe (Lesotho): Dr Matoetoe will join the research group led by ICREA Prof at ICFO Romain Quidant to work on a project in nanobiosensors for determination of pharmaceuticals and personal care products.

  • Dr. Nosipho Moloto (South Africa): Dr Moloto will join the research group led by Prof. Gerasimos Konstantatos to work on a project on low cost solar cells

  • ICFO is happy to take part in this initiative which, in addition to allowing ICFO to benefit from the presence of these scientists in our community, aims to promote the access of African women to research and to make more visible their achievements in the international scientific community.
