Twenty new ICFOnians joined the different ICFO research groups, units and facilities during the month of June. Welcome aboard!

Four postdocs, Pawel Wozniak, Felix Huber, Gernot Gruber and Ana Perez, three PhD students, Craig Chisholm, Jelena Rakonjac and Lisa Kobayashi, seven summer research fellows, Jessica Sierra, Mariona Colomer, Irene Melgarejo, Carlos Ramos, Guifré Sanchez, Joan Sola and Adam Teixido, five students, Md Rahman, Isael Herrera, Saumey Jain, Pawel Wojcik and Pau Blanco, and one management role, Victoria Ridruejo, have joined ICFO in the month of June.

Pawel Wozniak, who holds a PhD from Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light - Erlangen, Germany, is coming to ICFO as a postdoctoral researcher at the Molecular Nanophotonics research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Niek van Hulst. At ICFO he will be working on the LightNet ERC project.

Felix Huber, who obtained a 2017 PhD 2017 from Universität Siegen - Germany, is coming to ICFO to join the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Antonio Acín as a postdoctoral researcher. His Cellex MPQ-ICFO position will allow him to work on the intersection between quantum information theory and many-body quantum physics.

Gernot Gruber has joined the Quantum NanoMechanics research group led by ICFO prof. Adrian Bachtold as a postdoctoral researcher. At ICFO, he will work on nanotube resonators.

Ana Perez holds a 2017 PhD in Chemistry from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and is now joining the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a postdoctoral researcher. Her main tasks will involve working on graphene-based membranes for water treatment.

Jelena Rakonjac, with a 2018 MSc in Physics - University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand, is now joining the Quantum Photonics with Solids and Atoms research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Hugues de Riedmatten as a PhD student to work on quantum optics with rare-earth doped quantum memories.

Craig Chisholm, who holds a 2018 MSc at University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand, is coming to ICFO as a PhD student at the Ultracold Quantum Gases research group led by ICFO prof. Leticia Tarruell. At ICFO he will be working on ultracold quantum gas experiments.

Lisa Kobayashi, who obtained a 2016 MSc in Physics at Lund, is returning to ICFO to join the Medical Optics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Turgut Durduran as a PhD student. Her work will involve diffuse optical neuromonitoring in clinics.

Carlos Ramos is pursuing a Physics degree at the Universidad de Valencia, and is now joining the Quantum Nano-Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Frank Koppens as a Summer Research Fellow.

Jessica Sierra, who is pursuing an MSc in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, is now joining the Neurophotonics and Mechanical Systems Biology research group led by ICFO prof. Michael Krieg as a Summer Research Fellow to work on the project “How to protect a brain?”.

Irene Melgarejo, who is studying a Mathematics and Physics engineering degree from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, is coming to ICFO as a Summer Research Fellow at the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Maciej Lewenstein. At ICFO she will be working on the thermodynamics of quantum liquid droplets.

Guifré Sanchez, who is pursuing a Physics and Mathematics degree from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, is coming to ICFO to join the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Antonio Acín as a Summer Research Fellow.

Joan Sola, who is pursuing a Physics and Mathematics degree at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, has joined the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Antonio Acín as a Summer Research Fellow.

Adam Teixido is pursuing a Mathematics and Physics engineering from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and is now joining the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Acín as a Summer Research Fellow.

Mariona Colomer, who is working towards a double degree in Physics and Biochemistry from the Universitat de Barcelona, is now joining the SLN Facility under ICFO prof. Stefan Wieser as a Summer Research Fellow, to work on cell migration patterning.

Md Rahman, who is pursuing a Europhotonics Master, is coming to ICFO as a master student at the Quantum Nano-Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Frank Koppens. At ICFO he will be working on polaritons with 2D materials.

Isael Herrera, who is working towards a degree in Physics from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México, is coming to ICFO to join the Quantum Engineering of Light research group led by ICFO prof. Juan P. Torres as a student. His work will involve quantum lidar with entangled states.

Saumey Jain, who is pursuing an MSc in Nanotechnology from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, has joined the SLN Facility research group under ICFO prof. Stefan Wieser as a student.

Pawel Wojcik is pursuing an MSc in Theoretical Physics from the University of Warsaw, and is now joining the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Maciej Lewenstein as a student. His main tasks will involve working on the interface of physics of cold matter and quantum chemistry.
