Our group explores the mechanical, optical, and electrical properties of devices based on single nanoscale objects, such as carbon nanotubes and graphene. Due to their small size, nanoscale objects can feature unique properties. Our aim is to exploit these properties for different classes of experiments. For instance, we showed that a carbon nanotube can resonate as a guitar string, whereas a graphene layer can vibrate as a drum membrane. We also used a nanotube to demonstrate a thermal nanomotor.
