Graphene quantum nanomechanics
Description of Activities:
Light emitters in the vicinity of graphene are an ideal testbed for exploring cavity quantum electrodynamics phenomena that are unique to graphene. Suspended graphene is an excellent mechanical resonator exhibiting very large quality factors, and due to the small mass the motion of the thermal ground state is relatively large. We will use emitter-graphene coupling as an ultra-sensitive probe for the position and motion of a graphene sheet. This unique near-field coupling scheme will lay the foundation of a very promising and ultra-sensitive novel nano-optomechanical system.
