New ICFOnians

Fourteen ICFOnians joined the different ICFO research groups, units and facilities during the month of November. Welcome aboard!

Five Postdoctoral researchers, three PhD students, five students and one Junior KTT Project Manager.

 

Stefano Signorini, who holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Trento, in Italy, joins ICFO as a Postdoctoral researcher in the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Valerio Pruneri. He will be focusing his research on quantum communication and sensing using entanglement and correlations.

Aleksandra Sierant received her PhD in Physics from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. She joins ICFO as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Atomic Quantum Optics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Morgan Mitchell. She will work on experimental atomic quantum optics

Piotr Sierant, holds a PhD in Physics from Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. He joins ICFO as a Postdoctoral researcher in the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Maciej Lewenstein. He will be focusing his research on problems related to project of the QOT group, many body quantum theory, quantum simulators, machine learning. techniques of exact diagonalization.

Manuel Gessner who received his PhD at Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg, Germany, joins ICFO as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Antonio Acín. He will will be working on the study of many-body quantum systems and their application to quantum information protocols.

Artur Niezgoda, who holds a PhD from the University of Warsaw, joins ICFO as a Postdoctoral researcher in the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Antonio Acín. He will work on quantum correlations in many-body systems and metrology.

Susana Plascencia, holds a Msc in Optics at the Centro de Investigaciones en Óptica, at León, in Mexico. She joins ICFO as a PhD student in the Quantum Photonics with Solids and Atoms research group led by ICREA Prof Hugues de Riedmatten. She will focus her research on fiber-based quantum memories.

Kartika Nimje, who holds a MSc in Physics from ISERC, at Visva Bharati, India, joins ICFO as a PhD student in the Thermal Photonics research group led Prof Dr Georgia Papadakis.

Jie Meng, who holds a MsC in Photonics from the Friedrich-Schiller University Jena, in Germany, joins ICFO as a PhD student in the Attoscience and Ultrafast Optics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Jens Biegert. She will focus her research on molecular dynamic imaging with LIED.

Maria Torras Pérez, who is pursuing a double Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, joins ICFO as a student in the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Antonio Acín.

Harini Raghavan , who is working towards a MSc in Physics at Birla Institute of Technology and Science at Hyderabad, India, has joined ICFO as a student in the Thermal Photonics research group led by Prof Dr Georgia Papadakis.

Alberto de Toni, who is pursuing a MSc in ICT for Internet and Multimedia – Photonics at University of Padova, joins ICFO as a student in the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Valerio Pruneri.

Eric Torralba , who is working towards a BSc in Biomedical Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, has joined ICFO as a student in the Neurophotonics and Mechanical Systems Biology research group led by Prof Dr Michael Krieg.

Álvaro García Hernández , who is pursuing a MSc in Photonics from UPC, UAB, UB and ICFO, has joined ICFO as a student in Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Antonio Acín.

Lisa Saemisch, who holds a PhD in PhD in Photonics from ICFO, has joined the KTT unit as a Junior KTT Project Manager to give support in marketing and management of the intellectual property portfolio of ICFO in the field of health.
