ICFO strongly supports actions that encourage and empower women in science and in keeping with this goal, offers the “Women in Science” series. These events aim to increase the visibility of female researchers at the institute, create a discussion forum on specific topics of interest, and create an informal space for networking.

The events are held on a monthly basis and target all women researchers at ICFO, as well as allies.

The event includes a seminar with topical discussions on career progression for women in science, and a light netoworking lunch

CAROLINE CHAMPENOIS: ‘Women In Physics all over the world, we need more!’

The 2017 UNESCO report “Cracking the code” comments key indicators which show that “the world is still deprived of the talents and potential contributions of millions of women due to clear gender-based discrepancies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and occupations”. I propose we take a short overlook of the situation for physics in different countries and we discuss what can turn young girls, girls and young women away from science. This way, we can identify some actions to take to attract, keep, and promote women in Physics. Everybody can play a role to reach that goal, from schools to research labs and private companies.
