Atomic Scale Memristive Electronics and Photonics

Technological evolution offered by Moore’s law does not progress anymore as it did before. More and more the high-energy consumption inhibits further progress. New approaches that are more energy efficient and have the scaling potential to solve complex tasks are therefore in demand. The human brain, though, is an example showing that nature can offer much more computational power with much less energy consumption. Also considering the dimensions one seems to reach the limits; but such limits are technological rather than fundamental. The ultimate limit is actually only given by the atom.In this talk I will review recent advances in the field of atomic scale electronics and photonics and I will present our most recent research.
