Description of Activities:

Attosecond physics is a rapidly developing area which deals with the ultrastrong and ultrashort laser pulses and their interactions with matter. When strong laser fields interact with matter, one observes various fundamental phenomena such as high harmonic generation (HHG), above threshold ionization and multielectron ionization. The HHG process may lead to emission of XUV or soft X-ray coherent electromagnetic wave and allows to generate single pulses or pulses trains. The group focuses on the theoretical aspects of these processes. Several collaborations with the experimental groups at ICFO are ongoing (J. Biegert’s and R. Quidant’s).
