Two ICFO Group Leaders among the Most Cited Researchers

On Wednesday, 12^th November, Clarivate Web of Science has released its annual list of Highly Cited Researchers, including two ICFO Group Leaders, Prof Dr F. Pelayo García de Arquer and ICREA Prof Dr Frank H. L. Koppens, both in the Cross-Field Category.

The Highly Cited Researchers are individuals at universities, research institutes and private sector organizations who have demonstrated significant and broad influence in their field(s) of research. Based on the world’s population of scientists and social scientists, Clarivate determines that the Highly Cited Researchers are those that can be selected from 1 in 1,000.

To determine the recently published list of influential researchers, Clarivate’s Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) surveyed papers published and cited over an 11-year period, from January 2014 to December 2024, that ranked in the top 1% by citations for their Essential Science Indicators (ESI) at the end of 2024. Researchers are selected for their exceptional influence and performance in one of more of the 20 fields used in the ESI.

For the eighth year in a row, ICREA Professor Frank Koppens, head of ICFO’s Quantum Nano-Optoelectronics group, has been recognized on the Clarivate list of Highly Cited Researchers. ICFO Professor Pelayo García de Arquer, who leads the CO2 Mitigation Accelerated by Photons group, also continues to earn this distinction, having first appeared on the list in 2020, the same year he joined ICFO.
