2015 ICFO PhD Thesis Awards

3 ICFO PhD graduates awarded for ambition and creativity

Among more than 15 thesis defended by ICFO PhD Students in 2015, the Committee had an in depth deliberation to select the PhD Thesis Awards, which were created in order to distinguish particularly brilliant PhD theses presented at ICFO. With this award, ICFO wishes to highlight and reward extraordinary PhD students whose research progress at the Institute has proven to be highly creative and ambitious.

This year, the award has been given:

In the theoretical field to:
  • Jordi Tura, in recognition of the exceptional thesis: “Characterizing Entanglement and Quantum Correlations Constrained by Symmetry” supervised by ICREA Professor at ICFO Maciej Lewenstein & Dr. Remigiusz Augusiak.

And, in the experimental field, ex aequo to:
  • Federica Beduini, in recognition of the exceptional thesis: “Entanglement and State Characterisation from Two-Photon Interference”, supervised by ICREA Professor at ICFO Morgan Mitchell, and to

  • Juan A. Torreño, in recognition of the exceptional thesis: “Membrane Protein Nanoclustering as a Functional Unit of Immune Cells- from nanoscopy to function”, supervised by ICREA Professor at ICFO María García Parajo and Dr. Carlo Manzo.

Jordi, Federica and Juan A. received the award in the ceremony held on December 13 in the framework of the ICFO Day.
