Banc Sabadell Foundation Award Ceremony

ICREA Prof. at ICFO Romain Quidant receives the 1st Banco Sabadell Foundation Award for Science and Engineering.

On July 11th, the ceremony of the Banc Sabadell Foundation Prizes took place in Sant Cugat del Valles, where ICREA Prof at ICFO Romain Quidant was awarded the 1st Banco Sabadell Foundation Prize for Science and Engineering, together with Dr. Borja Ibáñez, researcher at the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares Carlos III (CNIC), who received the Foundation’s XII Prize for Biomedical Research.

Selected from among 41 candidates, Quidant was acknowledged for his outstanding contributions to the field of nanophotonics, which has shown to have a huge potential for applications in biomedicine. The ceremony was conducted by Josep Oliu, president of Banco Sabadell, who recognized the trajectory of young researchers resident in Spain, highlighting Quidant and Ibáñez’s outstanding achievements. The ceremony brought together prominent figures from the political, scientific, economic, academic, and investment world, interested in research projects, as well as several of the previous winners.

This prize, given jointly by the Banc Sabadell Foundation and the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST), aims to encourage and reward excellent work in scientific areas such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Engineering carried out by researchers in Spain, and highlights the Foundation’s commitment to the promotion, discovery and support of talent.
