Fifteen new ICFOnians joined the different ICFO research groups, units and facilities during the month of May. Welcome aboard! Five visiting scientists, one postdoctoral researcher, one PhD student, two visiting PhD students, three students and three members of administration have joined ICFO during the month of May.

Alessio Celi, who holds a 2004 PhD from the Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy, and is now working at the UAB, is coming to ICFO as a visiting scientist at the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Maciej Lewenstein, to work on some collaborations.

Elisa Tamariz, who obtained a 2000 PhD in Cell Biology from CINVESTAV, Mexico, is coming to ICFO to join the SLN Facility group led by ICFO Prof. Pablo Loza as a visiting scientist. Her position will allow her to work on the biological mechanisms involved in neuronal laser stimulation.

Esteban Gerbino holds a 2013 PhD from National University of La Plata, Argentina, and is now working for the National Scientific and Technical Research Council of Argentina. He is joining the SLN Facility group led by ICFO prof. Pablo Loza as a visiting scientist. His main tasks will involve understanding the production of iron sulphate salt in lactic bacteria.

Ravindra Chhajlany, who obtained a 2008 PhD from the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poland, and is now an Assistant Professor there, is coming to ICFO to join the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Maciej Lewenstein as a visiting scientist. His position will allow him to work on joint problems of bond fluctuating superconductivity.

Roberto Leon holds a 2014 PhD from ICFO and is now an Assistant Professor at the UNAM, Mexico. He is returning to the Quantum Engineering of Light research group led by ICFO prof. Juan P. Torres as a visiting scientist. His main tasks will involve developing new spectroscopy techniques based on sources of non-classical light.

Adriana Gonzalez, who holds a 2019 PhD from University of Kiel, Germany, is coming to ICFO as a postdoctoral researcher at the Neurophotonics and Mechanical Systems Biology research group led by ICFO prof. Michael Krieg. At ICFO, she will be working on optimizing luminescence imaging and luciferases as signaling tools.

Ying-Hao Chien, who obtained a 2017 MSc from the University of Wyoming, USA, is coming to ICFO to join the Attoscience and Ultrafast Optics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Jens Biegert as a PhD student. His position will allow him to work on ultrafast carrier dynamics in solids.

Iris Agresti is pursuing a PhD in the Università la Sapienza, Italy, and is now joining the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Acín as a visiting PhD student. Her main tasks will involve working on some theory-experiment collaborations.

Pei-Sheng Lin, who holds a 2016 MSc in Physics from the National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, is coming to ICFO as a visiting PhD student at the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Antonio Acín. At ICFO he will be collaborating on the study of quantum correlations and the application for device-independent quantum information processing.

Arnau Rosell Canet is working toward an MSc in Micro & Nanotechnology, and is now joining the Quantum Nano-Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Frank Koppens as a student. His main tasks will involve working on nanophotonics with 2D materials.

Jacqueline Martinez Garcia, who is pursuing a BSc in Physics from the Universidad de las Americas Puebla, Mexico, is coming to ICFO as a student at the SLN Facility group led by ICFO prof. Stefan Wieser.

Sara Zacchetti, who is studying for an MSc in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Rome, Italy, is coming to ICFO to join the SLN Facility group led by ICFO Prof. Pablo Loza as a student. Her position will allow her to work on the measurement of biological samples in the Raman microscope.

Xavier Cañas is coming to ICFO to join the IT department as an Information and Communication Technologies specialist.

Arnau Cobes is coming back to ICFO to join the Electronics Workshop.

Jaume Sanchis is coming to ICFO as a Financial Accountant in the Finances unit.
