New ICFOnians

Eighteen new ICFOnians joined the different ICFO research groups, units and facilities during the month of June. Welcome aboard!

July 11, 2019

One artist in residence, one visiting scientists, five postdoctoral researcher, seven summer fellows, three students and one member of administration have joined ICFO during the month of June.

Reiko Yamada, who holds a 2014 Degree in Music and Music Production from the McGill University, Canada, is coming to ICFO as an artist in residence at the Medical Optics research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Turgut Durduran. At ICFO she will be working on the LUCA project as an artist in residence.

Victor Vysloukh, who is a professor in the Universidad de las Américas-Puebla in Mexico, has joined the Nonlinear Optical Phenomena research group led by ICFO Prof. Lluis Torner as a visiting scientist. He will be collaborating with the group during his research stay.

Andrea Konecna holds a 2019 PhD from the University of the Basque Country and is now joining the Nanophotonics Theory research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Javier Garcia de Abajo as a postdoctoral researcher. Her main tasks will involve computational and analytical studies of the interaction of electron beams with photonics nanostructures.

Ernest Pastor, who holds a 2015 PhD in Photochemistry from the Imperial College London, UK, is coming to ICFO as a postdoctoral researcher at the Ultrafast Optical Dynamics of Solids research group led by ICFO prof. Simon Wall. At ICFO he will be working on “Phonon-guided” dynamics in solid and chemical systems.

Ewelina Wajs, who obtained a 2014 PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University Rovira i Virgili, Spain, is coming to ICFO to join the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a postdoctoral researcher. Her position will allow her to work on chemical and biological functionalization of optical surfaces.

Stefan Baeuml holds a 2015 PhD from the University of Bristol, and is now joining the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Antonio Acín as a postdoctoral researcher. His main tasks will involve the study of protocols for randomness and key distribution.

Valentin Kasper, who holds a 2016 PhD from the Universität Heidelberg, Germany, is coming to ICFO as a postdoctoral researcher at the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Maciej Lewenstein. At ICFO he will be working on many body physics of out of equilibrium systems.

Adrià Marin, who is pursuing a degree in Physics and Mathematics at the UAB, is coming to ICFO to join the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Antonio Acín as a summer fellow.

Adrian Pinilla Sanchez is studying towards a degree in chemistry from the IQS, and is now joining the Organic Nanostructured Photovoltaics research group led by ICFO prof. Jordi Martorell as a summer fellow.

Antoni Latorre, who is working towards a degree in Physics from the UB, is coming to ICFO as a summer fellow at the Quantum Nano-Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Frank Koppens.

Gerardo García, who is pursuing a degree in Physics from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, is coming to ICFO to join the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Maciej Lewenstein as a summer fellow.

Laura Zarraoa Sardon, who is pursuing a MSc from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), is coming to ICFO as a summer fellow at the Quantum Photonics with Solids and Atoms research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Hugues de Riedmatten.

Miquel Saucedo, who is working towards a degree in Physics and Mathematics from the UAB, is coming to ICFO to join the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Antonio Acín as a summer fellow.

Simon Cichy is studying Physical Engineering at the UPC, and is now joining the Ultrafast Optical Dynamics of Solids research group led by ICFO prof. Simon Wall as a summer fellow.

Ayse Bilgehan Baspinar, who is pursuing a BSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Bilkent University, Turkey, is coming to ICFO as a student at the Functional Optoelectronic Nanomaterials research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Gerasimos Konstantatos.

Jaime Redondo Yuste, who is studying for a double Bachelor in Physics and Mathematics at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), is coming to ICFO to join the Theoretical Quantum-Nano Photonics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Darrick Chang as a student. His position will allow him to work on quantum atom-light interactions using a quantum spin model.

Rachele Catalano is joining the Neurophotonics and Mechanical Systems Biology research group led by ICFO prof. at Michael Krieg as a student. Her main tasks will involve to build light-field microscope for single shot 3D acquisition.
