New ICFOnians

Eleven ICFOnians joined the different ICFO research groups, units and facilities during the month of March. Welcome aboard!

Ten postdoctoral researchers, four PhD students, one junior project manager, one business developer and nine students have joined ICFO during the months of January and February.

Carles Ros, who holds a 2019 PhD in Nanoscience from la Universitat de Barcelona at IREC (Catalonian Institute for Energy Research), comes to ICFO as a postdoctoral researcher in the Organic Nanostructured Photovoltaics research group led by ICFO Prof Dr Jordi Martorell. He will be responsible for the research work to be implemented to achieve the objectives of the LESGO project.

André Gonçalves received his PhD in Physics from the Technical University of Denmark, and joins the Nanophotonics Theory group led by ICREA Prof Dr Javier García de Abajo as a postdoctoral researcher. His main tasks will involve the development of nonlocal response theory for electron microscopy and 2D materials.

Bernhard Irsigler holds a PhD in Physics from the GOETHER Universität, Frankfurt Germany. He joins ICFO as a postdoctoral researcher in the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Maciej Lewenstein. He will work with Dr Tobias Grass in a project funded by the ”la Caixa” Foundation in the area of quantum many body systems in AMO and condensed matter physics.

Chen Klein holds a PhD in Engineering from the Ben Gurion University in Israel. He joins ICFO as a postdoctoral researcher in the Optolectronics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Valerio Pruneri. He will be focusing his research on Optical Surfaces.

Alfredo Sanchez, who obtained his PhD in Engineering from the Instituto Balseiro in Bariloche, Argentina, is now joining the Optical Parametrical Oscillators research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Majid Ebrahim-Zadeh as a postdoctoral researcher. He will work on theoretical modelling and simulation of ultrafast and continuous-wave optical parametric oscillators for frequency comb generation, soliton formation, and pulse compression.

Lucheng Peng, who holds PhD in Physical Chemistry from the Jilin University, joins ICFO as a postdoctoral researcher in the Functional Optoelectronic Nanomaterials research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Gerasimos Konstantatos. His main tasks will involve the development of infrared colloidal quantum dots with engineered optoelectronic properties.

Kostas Mouloudakis holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Crete in Greece. He joins the Atomic Quantum Optics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Morgan Mitchell as a postdoctoral researcher. He will work on the development of atomic vapour sensors and quantum sensing.

Anurag Behera, holds a PhD in Physics from the Politecnico di Milano in Italy. He joined ICFO in 2018 as a Visiting Scientist in the Medical Optics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Turgut Durduran and is now remaining in that group as a postdoctoral researcher

Fen Zhang, holds a PhD in Psychology at the University of Ghent in Belgium. He joins the Medical Optics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Turgut Durduran as a postdoctoral researcher. He will collaborate on RIS3CAT project with UPF and Maternitat. Studies on infant cognitition on both healthy and at risk ones.

Gian Marcello Andolina, holds a PhD in Nanoscience at Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa in Italy. He joins ICFO as a postdoctoral researcher at the Theoretical Quantum-Nano Photonics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Darrick Chang. He will work on Quantum many-body physics in atom-light interfaces.

Gabriel Fernández, who holds a MSc in Photonics from the UPC-UB-UAB-ICFO, joins ICFO as a PhD student in the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Valerio Pruneri. He will study machine learning and applications in many body systems.

Eduardo Arqué, who obtained his MSc in Quantum Physics from the UPC in Barcelona, joins ICFO’s Nanophotonics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Javier García de Abajo as a PhD student. His work will focus on quantum aspects of polaritonic response in 2D materials.

José Javier Ruiz holds a MSc in Photonics from the UPC. He joins the SLN Lab led by Dr Pablo Loza as a PhD student. His position will allow him to work on Raman imaging and analysis form selected biomedical samples.

Luke Mortimer, who holds a MSc in Theoretical Physics from the University of York in UK, joins ICFO as a PhD student in the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Antonio Acín.

Saad Abdullah who is pursuing a Master’s in Photonics at UPC, UAB, UB and ICFO, joins ICFO as a student at the Nanophotonics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Javier García de Abajo.

Jan Krpensky, a Master’s student from Brno University of Technology, joins ICFO as a student at the Nanophotonics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Javier García de Abajo.

Anna Migó Lluís, who is pursuing her BSc degree in Physics Engineering from UPC, joins the Quantum Engineering of Light research group led by UPC Prof at ICFO Dr Juan P. Torres as a student.

Helena Kirchner Sala, a BSc student in Physics Engineering from UPC, joins ICFO as a student in the Quantum Engineering of Light research group led by UPC Prof at ICFO Dr Juan P. Torres.

Jaume Villasante Canovas, who is pursuing his BSc degree in Physics Engineering from the UPC, joins the Quantum Engineering of Light research group led by UPC Prof at ICFO Dr Juan P. Torres as a student.

Goretti Torres, who is pursuing her BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolas de Hidalgo, comes to ICFO as a student in the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Valerio Pruneri.

Adrián Pinilla Sánchez, who is working towards a Master of Multidisciplinary Research in Experimental Sciences from the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST), joins ICFO as a student in the Organic Nanstructured Photovoltaics research group led by ICFO Prof Dr Jordi Martorell.

Carolina Fajardo Vega, a BSc student in Physics from Universidad del Valle, joins ICFO as a student in the Medical Optics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Turgut Durduran.

Diana Pineda Vázquez, who is pursuing a BSc in Physics from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico, joins ICFO as a student in the Medical Optics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Turgut Durduran.

Carlota Corbella holds a BA in Physics from Princeton University. She joins ICFO’s KTT unit as a Junior Project Manager.

Olivier Messager, who holds a MSc in Microelectronics Technology & Manufacturing Management, Ecole Nationale des Mines de Saint Etienne Master of Sciences (FR), joins ICFO’s KTT unit as a Business Developer. He will work on tasks related to the graphene and 2D materials portfolio.
