IONS-5 at ICFO
The fifth edition of the IONS Conference returns to Barcelona where it began
in 2007.

ICFO is the venue of IONS-5, the conference “by PhD students and for PhD students” taking place on February 19-21, 2009. The meeting, organized by the International OSA Network of Students (IONS) at ICFO, and sponsored by the Optical Society of America (OSA), is the fifth edition of an event that started in Barcelona in 2007. Optics students from such different cities as Berlin, Paris, Madrid, Bogota, Moscow, Orlando, and Naples and from leading research centers like CREOL, ORC, NIST and MPQ have gathered at ICFO to discuss science, present the latest results, do networking and enjoy Barcelona.
Keynote speakers include Prof. Thomas M. Baer, OSA President and CEO of the Stanford Photonics Research Center (SPRC), Prof. Lukas Novotny, Head of the Nano-Optics Group at Rochester University and Co-Chair of Frontiers in Optics 2008/Laser Science XXIV, and Prof. Lluis Torner, ICFO Director. In addition to scientific talks by participating scientists and ICFO group leaders, the event includes informal talks on scientific outreach, a poster session on research and outreach activities, an exhibit room for photonic companies and subsequent gathering with these companies, and social, cultural and networking activities at ICFO and in Barcelona.
