Laserlab II Kick-off at ICFO
The inaugural meeting of the European consortium took place at ICFO on March 27-28.

ICFO hosted the kick-off meeting of Laserlab-Europe. This is the consortium of the major European laser research institutions. The project started its second round under the 7th Framework Programme, after the successful results obtained under the 6th Framework Programme.
The consortium, consisting so far of 17 partners from nine European countries, now has expanded considerably. New partners are from Spain, Portugal, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary and Latvia, as well as associate partners from Bulgaria, Austria and Denmark. Together with subcontractors for joint research projects, 46 European laser facilities from 19 European countries will cooperate in the activities planned for the 7th Framework Programme. Spanish research centers, including ICFO, have joined the second round of the project for the first time. “Spain is an important new partner in the consortium, making large investments in laser research”, says Prof. Wolfgang Sandner of the Max Born Institute in Berlin, who coordinates the LASERLAB-EUROPE consortium.
