Dr. Philipp Hauke

Dr. Philipp Hauke receives the Honorable Mention of the Votruba Thesis Prize 2013. Dr. Philipp Hauke, who obtained his PhD degree at ICFO in April 2013, has been granted the Honorable Mention of the Votruba Thesis Prize 2013 for this doctoral thesis entitled “Quantum simulations with ultracold atoms: beyond standard optical lattices”.

The Votruba Thesis Prize was established to commemorate the late Professor Václav Votruba, founder of modern Czech theoretical physics, and is awarded annually to the author of the best doctoral thesis in theoretical physics. Sponsored by the Foundation for Support of Theoretical Physics during its first years, the prize is now supported by the Czech Technical University of Prague.

Dr. Hauke carried out his PhD work in the Quantum Optics group led by ICREA Professor at ICFO Maciej Lewenstein, focussing on formulating methods to increase control over quantum simulators. He is now working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Theoretical Physics at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. He has received the Honorable Mention for “an exceptionally well-written and impressive thesis, summarising research addressing simulations of processes in complex systems based on numerous strong publications written with leading experts in the field of quantum simulations”.

Congratulations Philipp!
