The 8 finalists of Famelab 2014

ICFOnian Giorgio Colangelo qualifies for finals in Madrid. The Teatre Poliorama was the site last Friday, 21st March, of the Famelab semifinals, an international contest of scientific monologues organized in Spain by the British Council and Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnologia (FECYT) with the support of Obra Social “la Caixa”. The event drew a crowd of over 600 science enthusiasts.

Eleven scientists from institutes all over Spain, ranging in age from 26 to 53 and trained in Biology, Physics, Engineering and Mathematics, participated with 3 minute monologues which aimed to communicate science to society in a fun and entertaining way. ICFOnian Giorgio Colangelo gave an outstanding demonstration of a Bose Einstein Condensate, which earned him a position as a finalist in the competition, taking place this May in Madrid. The winner in Madrid will be Spain’s finalist and will take part in the international final at the Cheltenham Science Festival (UK) in June 2014.
