Fourteen new ICFOnians joined the different ICFO research groups, units and facilities during the month of May. Welcome aboard! Two visiting scientists, Izabela Piechocka and Pablo Mobili, three postdocs, Piergiacomo Fonseca, Raju Valivarthi and Maurizio Reduzzi, one visiting PhD student, Michele Gozzelino, three students, Christina Graham, Avinash Kumar and Jessica Sierra, two technicians, Francisco Prieto and Oscar Alcaine, and three management roles, Laura Val, Laura Figueras and Roger Ponce, have joined ICFO in the month of May.

Izabela Piechocka, who holds a 2011 PhD, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and is now at IPPT PAN (Institute of Fundamental Technological Research Polish Academy of Sciences), is coming to ICFO as a visiting scientist at the Single Molecule Biophotonics research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Maria García-Parajo. At ICFO she will be preparing fibrin samples for STED imaging and analysis.

Pablo Mobili, who obtained a 2008 PhD at the Facultad de Ciencias Exactas, UNLP- Argentina, is coming to ICFO to join the SLN facility under Prof. Pablo Loza as a visiting scientist. His work will be related to the Raman spectral characterisation of Lactic acid bacteria.

Piergiacomo Fonseca, with a PhD in Physics ,University College London, has joined the Plasmon Nano-Optics research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Romain Quidant as a postdoctoral researcher. At ICFO, he will work on optomechanics with optical nanocavities.

Raju Valivarthi holds a 2018 PhD, Physics and Astronomy University of Calgary- Canada, and is now joining the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a postdoctoral researcher. His main tasks will involve integrated quantum communication.

Maurizio Reduzzi, with a 2015 PhD in Physics at the Politecnico di Milano - Italy, is now joining the Attoscience and Ultrafast Optics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Jens Biegert as a postdoctoral researcher to work on attosecond X-Ray investigation of conical intersections in organics.

Michele Gozzelino, who is pursuing a PhD at INRIM- Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica - Torino- Italy, is joining the Quantum Information with Cold Atoms and Non-classical Light research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Morgan Mitchell as a visiting PhD student. He will work on quantum enhanced optical readout for atomic clocks.

Christina Graham, who is pursuing an MSc in Materials Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh, is joining the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a student to work on theoretical and experimental studies of environmentally friendly solar cell materials.

Avinash Kumar, who is pursuing an MSc in Optics and Photonics, Aix Marseille University (AMU), Marseille, France, has joined the Quantum Nano-Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Frank Koppens as a student to work on graphene plasmonics.

Jessica Sierra is joining the Neurophotonics and Mechanical Systems Biology research group led by ICFO Prof. Michael Krieg as a student.

Francisco Prieto is joining the Mechanical Workshop under Xavier Menino as a new mechanical technician.

Oscar Alcaine is joining the Electronic Workshop under José Carlos Cifuentes as a new electronics technician.

Laura Val is joining the Projects unit under Núria Beltri as the new project manager for the graphene flagship.

Laura Figueras is also joining the Projects unit under Núria Beltri as a new pre-award project manager.

Roger Ponce, who holds a 2016 MSc. Experimental Solid State Physics from the RWTH-Aachen University, Germany, is joining the KTT Unit under Silvia Carrasco as the new business developer for the PELO project.
