11 February 2019 International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Why We Do It

From February 11th thru March 8th ICFOnians will celebrate an entire month dedicated to Women for Science The year 2016 marked the first International Day for Women and Girls in Science, established by the United Nations Member States to recognize the critical role that women and girls play in science and technology around the globe.

This important day has become an annual tradition at ICFO and now also marks the day in which ICFO launches WOMEN FOR SCIENCE month. Through March 8th (International Women’s Day) ICFO rolls out a full agenda of activities that highlight the contributions of women for science, contemplate future actions which could increase the prominence of women in science, and allow us to learn more about the perspectives of women working in all areas of science around the world.

This celebration is for all ICFOnians because we will ALL benefit by supporting women in science.

ICFO encourages women and girls with inquisitive minds to join us on this fascinating journey of scientific discovery!
