Founded in 2019 by ICFO alumni Dr. Bárbara Buades and Dr. James Douglas, MEETOPTICS emerged from the founders’ need for a better way to identify suitable optical and photonic components and equipment for the laboratory. What started as a specialized photonics search platform has evolved into the trusted AI infrastructure for scientific and engineering knowledge.
Today, scientific and engineering information is fragmented across millions of PDFs, datasheets, images, websites, and internal documents. Finding reliable technical information is slow and inefficient, causing delays in research and innovation.
MEETOPTICS transforms fragmented technical data into a unified, continuously updated Scientific Knowledge Fabric. Its technology extracts, structures, and standardizes technical data from heterogeneous sources, making technical knowledge searchable, accessible, and usable through AI systems.
This technology has enabled the creation of the world’s largest search engine for photonics laboratory equipment, with +130K products and 2.6 million standardized specifications. It also powers Louis, the scientific AI assistant that helps +55,000 professionals each month identify the right solutions based on their technical requirements.
MEETOPTICS also deploys this technology to create custom Scientific AI Agents (SAIAs) for manufacturing companies, like Hamamatsu. These AI agents extract and contextualize historical technical data and product portfolios using scientific knowledge, enabling engineering, technical sales, and support teams to accurately access complex technical information, leading to data-driven decisions and acting as the company’s top technical expert.
MEETOPTICS has already helped organizations including ASML, MIT, Cisco, TOPTICA and IBM access technical knowledge and source laboratory equipment to accelerate projects.
