Practical quantum communication

We focus on the development of deployable quantum systems for secure communication and large field-of-view (FOV) quantum imaging.

For example, we have designed and implemented a continuous variable quantum key distribution system, with fully operational electronics, software control and real time signal post-processing, to be deployed in the future European quantum communication infrastructure (Euro-QCI) and as an additional security channel in private networks for business. Advances in single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) array technology and the group’s experience in building efficient entangled photon sources have also allowed us to demonstrate supersensitive imagers, particularly suitable to achieve high signal to noise ratio (SNR) in the low photon regime. Our research on this topic has contributed to the creation of two spin-offs: one already established (www.quside.com) and another incubating (Luxquanta).
