Twenty five new ICFOnians joined the different ICFO research groups, units and facilities during the month of May and June. Welcome aboard!

Four visiting scientists, Jiri Svozilik, Jan Wehr, Yujue Yang, and Victor Vysloukh, eight postdocs, Veerachart Kajorndejnukul, Sotirios Christodoulou, Maria Marsal, Ilaria Mannelli, Shreyasi Thakur, Lenard Vamos, Tymofiy Khodkov, and Alexander Powell, one research engineer, Therese Paoletta, four Ph.D. students, Mathias Charconnet, Juan Rombaut, Raju Regmi, Susanna Tagliabue, four visiting students, Nirusanth Vasaspathy, Inge Groen, Felix Tebbenjohanns, and Anna Dawid, six members of Management, Ziad Moubarak Gregoire de Hemptinne Elie Calvin Benchimol Ingrid Solsona, Anita Kosmalska, and Diana Campo, have joined ICFO in the month of May and June.

Jiri Svozilik , who obtained his PhD degree at ICFO in October of 2014, is once again coming back to ICFO to join the Quantum Engineering of Light research group led by UPC Prof. Juan Pérez-Torres as a visiting scientist. At ICFO, he will be conducting experimental proposals for testing the relationship between Coherence and entanglement.

Jan Wehr, professor of Applied Mathematics from the University of Arizona-UA is joining the Quatum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO, Maciej Lewenstein as an invited professor. At ICFO he will be giving lectures on stochastic processes as well as collaborating with group working on joint projects and upcoming papers.

Yujue Yang, who holds a PhD degree in Materials Physics and Chemistry, Chienese Academy of Sciences (CN) has joined the Functional Optoelectronic Nanomaterials research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Gerasimos Konstantatos as a visiting scientist. During her stay, she will be working with graphene and 2D QD hybrid optoelectronics.

Victor Vysloukh, researcher from the Departamento de Actuaría, Física y Matemáticas de la Universidad de Las Americas- Puebla- Mexico is joining the Nonlinear Optical Phenomena research group led by Prof. Lluis Torner as a visiting scientist. During his stay at ICFO, he will be conducting research in optical solitons and their applications.

Veerachart Kajorndejnukul, who obtained his PhD degree in Optics from CREOL, University of Central Florida, in Orlando, USA is now joining the Nonlinear Optical Phenomena research group led by Prof. Lluis Torner as a postdoctoral researcher. At ICFO, he will focus his research on anisotropic transformation optics.

Sotirios Christodoulou, who holds a PhD degree in Physics from the Italian Institute of Technology, is joining the Functional Optoelectronic Nanomaterials research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Gerasimos Konstantatos as a postdoc researcher. During his fellowship, he will be conducting research on harnessing the SWIR part of solar spectrum for high efficiency photovoltaics.

Maria Marsal, with a PhD degree in Biology - Department of Genetics, University of Barcelona, is joining the SLN facility led by Dr. Pablo Loza as a postdoctoral researcher. Maria will be focusing her research on the access to super resolution techniques in the frame of CORBEL (EUBI) project.

Ilaria Mannelli, who obtained her PhD degree in Chemistry from the University of Florence in Italy, has joined the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a postdoc researcher. During her fellowship at the institute, she will be working on the functionalization of surfaces for bio interactions.

Shreyasi Thakur, who holds a PhD degree in Biophysics Centre de Biochimie Structurale CNRS - MONTPELLIER in France is now joining the Advanced Fluorescence Imaging And Biophysics research group led by ICFO Prof. Melike Lakadamyali as a postdoctoral researcher. At ICFO, she will center her research on Vesicle-motor protein interactions studied at high resolution.

Lenard Vamos, who holds a PhD degree in Physics from Budapest University of Technology and Economics is now joining the Attoscience and Ultrafast Optics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Jens Biegert as a postdoc. At ICFO, he will be focusing his research on ultrashort pulse technology in the mid-wave infrared.

Tymofiy Khodkov, who graduated with a PhD degree in Physics from School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Exeter in United Kingdom is now joining the Nano-optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Frank Koppens as a postdoctoral fellow. At ICFO, he will centering his research on graphene photodetectors for applications.

Alexander Powell, who holds a PhD degree in Physics from the University of Oxford in United Kingdom, has joined the Plasmon Nano-optics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Romain Quidant as a postdoctoral researcher. At ICFO he will be working in collaboration with the KTT unit on projects related to 3D printing.

Therese Paoletta, who obtained her BSc in Physics from the University of Pennsylvania in USA, is now joining the Optical Parametric Oscillators research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Majid Ebrahim-Zadeh as a research engineer. At ICFO, she will be studying, designing and developing nonlinear frequency conversion sources based on wave mixing and parametric processes.

Mathias Charconnet, who graduated with a BSc degree in Nanoscience from Grenoble INP-Phelma in France, is now joining the research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Niek van Hulst as a PhD student. At ICFO, he will be carrying out his doctoral studies on strong coupling of single quantum dots to resonant nanoantennas.

Juan Rombaut, who obtained a Master degree in Industrial Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, has joined the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a PhD student. At ICFO, he will be centering his PhD studies on nanostructured surfaces for tactile displays.

Raju Regmi, who is pursuing a PhD degree from the EMJD- Europhotonics, has joined the Single Molecule Biophotonics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Maria García-Parajo to continue his PhD studies. At ICFO, he will conduct research on photonic antennas for single molecules studies in living cells.

Susanna Tagliabue, who holds a MSc degree in Photonics from the Politecnico di Milano in Italy has joined the Medical Optics group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Turgut Durduran as a PhD student. At ICFO, she will focus her research in diffuse optics techniques that provide information about tissues, centered on the assessment of brain health in neurocritical care and neuromonitoring.

Nirusanth Vasaspathy, who is pursuing a BSc degree in Electronics and Advanced Instrumentation from ENSICAEN in France, is joining the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a visiting student. At ICFO, he will be doing research on the development of an optical scatterometer and particle analyser

Inge Groen, who is pursuing a MSc degree in Applied Physics from the Technical University of Delft, in the Netherlands, is joining the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a visiting student. During her stay, she will be doing research on nanostructured optical surfaces repelling liquid and solids

Felix Tebbenjohanns, who is pursuing a MSc degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, ETH Zurich, is joining the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a visiting student. During his stay at ICFO, he will be working on a scattering particle analyzer based on CMOS image sensors.

Anna Dawid, who is pursuing a MSc degree in Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Warsaw, has joined the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Maciej Lewenstein as a visiting student. During her stay at ICFO, she will be doing research on applying quantum chemistry tools to ultracold atoms and molecules.

Ziad Moubarak, who holds a MBA degree from IESE Business School, returns to ICFO after spending his summer at the center in 2015 and now joins the Konwledge and Technology unit to carry out tech transfer projects as a business developer.

Gregoire de Hemptinne, who holds a MBA degree from IESE Business School, will collaborate this summer with the Knowledge & Technology Transfer unit led by Dr. Silvia Carrasco on different technology transfer projects.

Elie Calvin Benchimol, who holds a MBA degree from IESE Business School, will also collaborate this summer with the Knowledge & Technology Transfer unit led by Dr. Silvia Carrasco on different technology transfer projects.

Ingrid Solsona, who holds a Labor Relations Bachelor degree from the University of Barcelona, joins the Human Resources and Education unit and will be in charge of managing Labor Affairs handlings.

Anita Kosmalska, who has obtained a PhD degree in Cellular and Molecular Mechanobiology from the University of Barcelona, is joining the ICFO Management Unit to work as a Junior Strategic Projects Manager.

Diana Campo Borràs, who holds a degree in Audiovisual Communications from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, has joined the Corporate Communications unit and will be in charge of managing the ICFO Alumni network and community communications.
