Elected to the Academia Europaea
ICREA Prof. Jens Biegert joins Europe's most distinguished scholarly academy
In a significant recognition of his pioneering contributions to the field of ultrafast physics, ICREA Prof. at ICFO Jens Biegert has been elected as a new member of the Academia Europaea, joining the Academy’s Physics section for the class of 2026.
Prof. Biegert, leader of the Attoscience and Ultrafast Optics research group at ICFO, has been widely recognized for his groundbreaking work in attoscience and strong-field physics. His research focuses on capturing real-time many-body dynamics in atoms, molecules, and solids.
Membership is an honor conferred exclusively by invitation following rigorous international peer review and peer suggestion. For the class of 2026, the Board of Trustees selected 275 eminent scholars across the disciplinary classes of humanities and arts, social and related sciences, exact sciences, and life sciences. Prof. Biegert joins the Physics section of the exact sciences.
As part of this group of new members, the election of Prof. Biegert adds to a string of prestigious recognitions and awards, including the C.E.K. Mees Medal from Optica (2026), multiple European Research Council (ERC) grants, and the Bessel Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Biegert’s work has been instrumental in the field of Attoscience and continues to push the boundaries of light-matter science.
By joining this distinguished body, Professor Biegert becomes part of a network of leading scholars committed to advancing science and education across the European continent and beyond. “I am deeply honored to be elected to Academia Europaea.
