Nanophotonics Europe

New association established to promote research, technology transfer and innovation in nanophotonics.

December 02, 2009
The mission of Nanophotonics Europe is to foster nanophotonics research by supporting the training of researchers, promoting scientific excellence, and forging partnerships between academia and industry. It will also provide input to international roadmap activities, contributing to European research policy and work programmes.

The association’s founding members are ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences and the Catalan Institute of Nanotechnology, Barcelona; the European Laboratory for non-linear Spectroscopy in Florence; and the Università di Roma La Sapienza.

“One of the main challenges that will be addressed by the association is to bridge the gap between the academic and industrial worlds. To that extent, we plan to involve the main stakeholders in nanophotonics from both academia and industry”, says ICFO Staff Scientist Gonçal Badenes, President of Nanophotonics Europe.

Nanophotonics Europe will continue the activities of the FP 6 ICT-funded Network of Excellence ‘PhOREMOST’ – Nanophotonics to realize molecular scale technologies. One of the first of such activities will be the ‘Advances in Nanophotonics’ summer school to be held in Erice, Sicily, in July 2010.
