ERC grants for ICFO

ICFO’s researchers are among the most successful in the country in securing ERC grants.

February 05, 2018
The Catalan Agency for Management of University and Research Grants (AGAUR) has issued a report highlighting research excellence as measured by the number of European Research Council (ERC) grants given to Catalan institutions.

The report has ranked ICFO in first position for research centers, having secured the most ERC grants to date since the foundation of the ERC in 2007. The University Pompeu Fabra as a whole occupies the top institutional position, followed by the University of Barcelona and the Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG).

The ERC is a public body for funding of scientific and technological research conducted within the European Union (EU). Established by the European Commission in 2007, it forms part of the framework programme of the union dedicated to research and innovation). Under the FP7 and H2020 programs, the ERC Executive Agency (ERCEA) has evaluated more than 65,000 proposals and has financed more than 7,000 projects for open calls from 2007 to 2016, following a rigorous evaluation process, based solely on excellence.

The institutions based in Catalonia have received 3,3% of all the ERC grants awarded over these years. ICFO has secured 26 ERC grants to date, a clear indication of the outstanding research carried out by the research center’s scientists.
