Bringing technological innovations to market

GenCat Llavor Grant allows ICFO to launch INTREPID project for the development of an energy-generating window based on thin film organic photovoltaics

May 01, 2019

Through the LLAVOR Grant program, the Generaliat de Catalunya helps to provide seed funding for innovative projects with market potential in the early stages of technological maturity.

The project entitled “Building INtegrated TRansparEnt Photovoltaic wInDows” (INTREPID), submitted by ICFO’s Organic Nanostructured Photovoltaics research group led by UPC Professor at ICFO Jordi Martorell, received funding through this program and is set to start work towards the development of an energy-generating window based on thin film organic photovoltaics (OPV) that complies with the desired product characteristics (conversion efficiency, transparency, color) and with a viable large-scale manufacturing process. In the early stages of the project, the group will raise the Technology Readiness level of their already patented solar cells, preparing for the eventual commercial exploitation of the INTREPID technology.

Clearly aiming to help ensure that new knowledge and technologies produced in research centers in Catalonia are translated into economic growth for society, the LLAVOR initiative assists scientists in the early stages of commercialization of new technologies, generating business models, conducting commercial and technological feasibility analysis, designing concept testing, etc.

This project is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union under FEDER’s Operational Program in Catalonia 2014-2020.
