Enlightening C. elegans

A workshop on advanced imaging of the C. elegans
will take place at ICFO on March, 26th.

March 16, 2009
The 2009 Spanish Worm Meeting will take place in Barcelona on March 26-27, 2009. The 2-day meeting is co-hosted by ICFO and the Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG), and will include an advanced imaging workshop at ICFO. The workshop will consist in selected lecture sessions given by ICFO biophotonics group leaders and a key guest speaker, Sergey V. Plotnikov, from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, USA. In addition, there will be a hands-on demonstration of some of the latest advanced imaging techniques and their application to Caenorhabditis elegans. The goal is to encourage participants from different disciplines and backgrounds to interact and present state-of-the-art imaging techniques, particularly in regard to their application to C. elegans research.

Topics covered will include confocal spectral imaging, raman spectral imaging, multi-photon microscopy (second harmonic generation, two photon excitation microscopy), cell manipulation techniques (optical tweezers & laser ablation), and enhanced light-matter interaction at the nanoscale. The available facilities include a multimodal optical workstation, a Nikon confocal C1-Si microscope, a nonlinear microscope, and a polarizing microscope among others.
