Advances in the development of novel light sources, in particular of intense phase- stabilized few-cycle infrared pulses and attosecond XUV pulses, has opened up novel opportunities to observe and to control quantum dynamics in the time domain. The challenge to theory is thus not only to describe non-stationary wavepacket dynamics in many-particle systems but also to address the conceptual questions as to what novel information can be extracted from time-domain studies. In this talk we will address these questions with the help of a few representative examples from atomic, molecular, and solid-state physics.
