HENNING FEHRMANN 'An Introduction of the Supercomputer ATLAS and the Scientific Purpose'

HENNING FEHRMANN 'An Introduction of the Supercomputer ATLAS and the Scientific Purpose'

HENNING FEHRMANN Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physic
Seminar, October 27, 2008, 12:00. Seminar Room
HENNING FEHRMANN
Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics
Postdam
GERMANY
The ongoing data output of the gravitational wave experiments LIGO, VIRGO and GEO600 necessitate the provision of computational resources. The recently launched computer cluster ATLAS is the biggest operated by the LIGO Scientific Collaboration (LSC). The layout is driven by the numerical requirements. After a short introduction of the experiments and the data output I will describe various aspects of ATLAS including the cooling setup, the power supply, the network design, maintenance work, etc.. Beside the different kind of signal searches I will also introduce further application like the evaluation for periodic sources.
