Nano-Optics is the study of optical phenomena and techniques on the nanometer scale, i.e. beyond the diraction limit of optical radiation. It finds increasing applications in the study of the building blocks of matter and life (atoms, molecules, proteins, .. ). In this lecture, first an introduction and an overview of this rapidly evolving field of study will be provided, then the attention will be focused on a novel concept called optical antenna, a device to convert radiant optical energy into localized energy and vice versa.
