QOIT annual meeting

The second annual meeting of the QOIT (Quantum Optical Information Technology) project was held the 28th and 29th of January. This research project forms part of the CONSOLIDER-INGENIO 2010 Program of the Spanish Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia (MEC), that aims at funding cutting-edge nationwide projects at the forefront of research in any area of science. The project is dedicated at the development of methods and devices of information processing using quantum optical systems.
QOIT project combines experimental with theoretical research. The experimental part comprises photonic, atomic, and solid state quantum systems and thus covers the most important current approaches to quantum information processing. The theoretical part covers a wide range of aspects in close connection to the experiments, including the development of cryptographic protocols, schemes for creation and conservation of entanglement, and the simulation of quantum dynamics.
Researchers from ICFO, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universitat de Barcelona, Universitat Politècnica de València, CSIC Instituto de Microelectrónica de Madrid and Universitat Autònoma de Madrid participated in the meeting. “In an intense day of scientific exchange, all groups reported significant progress in their experimental and theoretical projects", Jürgen Eschner declared. "Oral contributions and posters stimulated discussions between the participants, in particular also between the young researchers. The first annual meeting of the QOIT research consortium was a full success."
