SEMINAR: Publishing careers: challenges and responsibilities of a scientific editor

ABSTRACT:

This career talk will focus on the role of scientific editors in the publishing process and the skills and qualifications necessary to become a successful editor. Attendees will learn about the responsibilities of an editor, such as managing the peer-review process, working with authors to improve their submissions, and promoting the journal to potential authors and readers. The talk will also explore the challenges facing the field, such as the increasing pressure to make research freely available and the impact of digital technologies on the dissemination of scientific knowledge. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges within the field, and learn about potential career paths as a scientific editor, including the qualifications and experience required to become an editor and the benefits of working in this field.

BIO:

Cristiano joined Nature Communications in February 2021. He received a B.S. degree from the University of Camerino and a MSc in physical an material chemistry from the University of Pavia. He obtained his PhD from the Institute of Material Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CISC), with a thesis on hybrid plasmonic-photonic nanostructures for enhanced spectroscopies. After his doctorate, Cristiano worked as an Assistant Editor for MDPI in Barcelona and then started as Associate Editor at Springer Nature. His team deal with quantum, atomic, molecular and optical physics and in he is responsible for the content in the areas of photonics, nonlinear optics, lasing, nanooptics and metamaterials.
