Ángel Faraldo and Carlos Abellan

Joint Lecture “Looped in the Sound of Photon”

In this joint talk, Carlos Abellan from QUSIDE will introduce the conceptual and theoretical framework of their real time quantum noise generator. Later, Ángel Faraldo will present some preliminary examples of how he approached several possibilities of composing with random noise, concluding with the description of the piece "un soroll més pur..." which he presented as a part of the project, “Interpreting Quantum Randomness”

BIOS:

Carlos Abellan is cofounder and CEO at Quside, a quantum technology spin-off from ICFO. Carlos got his PhD in quantum technologies at ICFO, where he developed the quantum randomness technologies that were transferred to Quside. 10 years of experience in quantum and photonics technologies, co-inventor of multiple patent families and co-author of 15+ papers in top scientific journals. Received the award MIT Innovators Under 35 Europe.

Ángel Faraldo is an experimental music maker seeking expression through improvisation, composition, installation art, site-specific actions, and sound design for theatre and film. His work focuses on the systematic exploration of processes that maximise minimal resources, developing a performative, critical and ecological perspective on electronic sound, as materialised in his cycle The Feedback Study Series, his digital synthesiser MISS or his approach to the no-input-mixer, presenting his work in venues and festivals in Europe and America. He has also developed a career teaching, performing and producing live electronic music, collaborating with a number of centres, ensembles and composers, and, between 2018 and 2022, as the forefront of the Phonos Foundation in Barcelona.
