"Quantum Optics using Rydberg Superatoms"
Abstract:
Rydberg atoms are atoms for which an electron is in a highly excited state and therefore occupies an orbital much larger than in the ground state. A specially interesting property of these atoms is the long-range interaction exhibited between them. When using light to excite the atoms to Rydberg states, the strong interaction can be mapped onto the light resulting in an optical medium which is nonlinear down to the few-photon level. This makes them a powerful platform for manipulating light in the quantum regime. In this talk I will present the core concepts in the field of quantum optics with Rydberg atoms and present the most recent advances worldwide as well as our own efforts in this direction.
