ALUMNI SEMINAR | Book Presentation: Exorcising Quantum Demons: How—and why—to write a book demystifying quantum myths for a broad audience

HIPPOLYTE DOURDENT

On Sant Jordi’s Day, we will have a very special presentation of this book written by an ICFO Alumni.

"Schrödinger's cat is both dead and alive." "A quantum computer calculates in parallel worlds." These catchy formulas paint quantum mechanics as irreducibly mysterious — yet this very theory is "at the same time" heralded as the engine of an imminent technological revolution. Hippolyte's book, Through the quantum looking glass (De l’autre côte de miroir quantique, vers une révolution technologique, Editions Dunod, 2025) dismantles the myths one by one, arguing that quantum theory is far more understandable than its reputation suggests, and invites the reader on a journey to the core of quantum weirdness, drawing on both modern quantum foundations and popular culture. He will introduce his book, reflect on the journey from idea to publication, and share how the project came to life.
