Mechanical factors are emerging as crucial regulators of cell behaviour. Such factors include the mechanical properties of cells and tissues (cell mechanics), but also their response to mechanical forces transmitted through the extracellular matrix or other cells (cell mechanosensing). In this lecture, we will introduce the fundamental concepts and techniques applied to study both cell mechanics and mechanosensing.
