April 09, 2021

Three postdoctoral researchers, two PhD students, one Research Engineer and five students have joined ICFO during the month of March.

Atif Yaqub, who holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Pusan National University, Republic of Korea, joins ICFO as a postdoctoral researcher in the Medical Optics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Turgut Durduran. He will work on VASCOVID engineering tasks. The development of the system, programming of the GUI, construction of the tourniquet. He will collaborate with engineering tasks of HEMOCOVID-19 project as well.

Daniel Hümmer received his PhD in Physics from the University of Innsbruck, and joins the Theoretical Quantum-Nano Photonics group led by ICREA Prof Dr Darrick Chang as a postdoctoral researcher.

Ekaterina Khestanova holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. She joins ICFO as a postdoctoral researcher in the Nano-Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Frank Koppens. She will be focusing her research on Optical properties of 2D material heterostructures and superconductors.

Teresa Karanikolau, who holds a MSc in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics from LMU and TUM, Munich, joins ICFO as a PhD student in the Theoretical Quantum-Nano Photonics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Darrick Chang. Her project will involve the investigation of out-of-equilibrium strongly correlated phenomena in atom-light interfaces.

Himanshu Dev, who obtained his MSc in Physics from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, joins ICFO’s Quantum NanoElectronics and NanoMechanics research group led by Prof Dr Adrian Bachtold as a PhD student. His work will focus on two-dimensional electrical and electromechanical devices.

Jessica Barrantes who is pursuing a Master’s in ICT for Internet and Multimedia, Photonics from the University of Padova, joins ICFO as a student at the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Valerio Pruneri.

Alberto de Toni, a Master’s student in ICT for Internet and Multimedia, Photonics from the University of Padova, joins ICFO as a student in the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Valerio Pruneri.

Maria Prat Colomer, who is pursuing her BSc degree in Mathematics and Computer Science at the UPC, joins the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Antonio Acín.
