20 years, 2000+ ICFOnians

On March 6th, 2002, ICFO was founded as a non-profit institution by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat Politècnca de Catalunya – Barcelona Tech. The formal creation of the legal entity culminated intense efforts over the previous years, and while the first meeting of the Board of Trustees lasted less than half an hour, it made possible the journey that has allowed us to bring together an impressive group of dedicated, curious and forwarding thinking scientists and professionals from all over the world. ICFOnians’ wide range of perspectives, ideas, hopes and ambitions have made possible remarkable collaborations and advances.

Twenty years later, our institution reaffirms its aspiration to be a force for positive change, to contribute to solving challenges faced by society and to give outstanding training and career opportunities to motivated researchers and professionals.  As we commemorate our institutional anniversary, we send a message of gratitude to the whole ICFOnians family, as well as to all our many collaborators and friends based all over the world for their contribution. Today more than ever, we wish all of them, and Humanity at large, happiness and peace.
