New ICFOnians

Twenty-six ICFOnians joined the different ICFO research groups, units and facilities during the month of February. Welcome aboard!

Four Postdoctoral researchers, seven PhD students, one Research Engineer, one visiting scientist and thirteen students.

Lorena Bianchet, recently defended her PhD at ICFO within the Atomic Quantum Optics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Morgan Mitchell, and will continue her research within the group as a Postdoctoral researcher.

Sebastian Castilla, recently defended his PhD at ICFO within the Nano-Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Frank Koppens, and will continue his research within the group as a Postdoctoral researcher.

Maxime Giteau, received his PhD in Photovoltaics from the University of Tokyo, in Japan. He joins ICFO as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Thermal Photonics research group led by Prof Dr Georgia Papadakis. He will work on light trapping and optoelectronics of thermophotovoltaics in the far-field and near-field.

Andrés Quiroga, holds a PhD in Applied Physics from the University of Campinas, in Brazil. He joins Medical Optics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Turgut Durduran as a Postdoctoral researcher. He will be working on NIH R21 project, his main tasks will be the construction, testing, installation and evaluation of the instrument. 

Valentina Gacha, holds a MSc in Materials Science Engineering from the Universidade Federal de Alfenas, in Brazil. She joins ICFO as a PhD student in the Organic Nanostructured Photovoltaics research group led by Prof Dr Jordi Martorell. The main focus of her research will be the development of new photocatalytic systems with an optimal light absorption and light to solar fuel conversion.

Rebecca Hoffman, who holds a MSc in Physics, from the RWTH Aachen University, in Germany, joins ICFO as a PhD student in the Quantum Nano-Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Frank Koppens. She will work on 2D material superlattices.

Miguel Dosil García, who holds a MSc in Advanced Materials, Nanotechnology and Photonics from the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, joins ICFO as a PhD student in the Functional Optoelectronic Nanomaterials research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Gerasimos Konstantatos. He will focus his research on colloidal quantum dot Infrared Lasers and/or single photon sources.

Claudio Iacovelli, holds a MSc in Physics from the University of Trento, in Italy. He joins the Ultracold Quantum Gases research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Leticia Tarruell. He will work on engineering quantum many-body systems with light-dressed quantum gases (theory).

Carlos Alarcón, holds a MSc in Physics from the University of Groningen, in Netherlands. He joins ICFO as a PhD student in the Attoscience and Ultrafast Optics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Jens Biegert. He will focus his research on investigating the real-time correlation between carriers and nuclei in quantum matter.

Joseph Wragg, who holds a MSc in Chemical Physics from the University of Edinburgh, joins the Molecular Nanophotonics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Niek van Hulst as a PhD student. He will focus his research on optical parametric oscillators and applications.

Roger Pons, who holds a MSc in Photonics from the UPC, joins ICFO as a PhD student in the Single Molecule Biophotonics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr María García-Parajo. He will work on the application of 3D single molecule dynamic approaches together with super-resolution microscopy to investigate intracellular membrane contact sites in living cells.

Lorenzo Castelvero, who holds a MSc in Communications Engineering from the Technical University of Munich, joins ICFO as a Research Engineer in the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Valerio Pruneri. He will work on the development of FPGA and signal processing for quantum communication systems.

Serni Toda Cosi, is pursuing a MSc of Multidisciplinar Research in Experimental Sciences from BIST and UPF, in Barcelona. He joins ICFO as a student in the Quantum Nano-Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Frank Koppens.

Egle Pagliaro, who is pursung a MSc in Physics of the Complex Systems at the University of Turin, Italy, joins ICFO as a student in the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Antonio Acín.

Enric Pérez-Parets, who is working towards a MSc in Photonics Engineering, Nanophotonics and Biophotonics at the UPC, has joined ICFO as a student in the Super-resolution Light Microscopy & Nanoscopy Lab led by Dr Pablo Loza.

Bilal Benazout, who is pursuing a MSc in Theoretical Physics at the École Normale Supérieure, in France, joins ICFO as a student in the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Antonio Acín.

Ana Blázquez Coído, who is working towards a MSc in Photonics at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, has joined ICFO as a student in the Atomic Quantum Optics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Morgan Mitchell.

Fernando Martín Romero, who is pursuing a MSc in Photonics from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, has joined ICFO as a student in the Atom Quantum Optics research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Morgan Mitchell.

Alberto Rodríguez-Moldes Sebastián, is pursuing a MSc in Quantum Science and Technology at Universitat de Barcelona. He joins ICFO as a student in the Quantum Photonics with Solids and Atoms research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Hugues de Riedmatten.

Erik Recio Armengol, who is pursuing a MSc in Quantum Physics and Technology at Universitat de Barcelona, joins ICFO as a student in the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Antonio Acín.

Eric Gil Portal, who is working towards a MSc in Quantum Science and Technology at Universitat de Barcelona, has joined ICFO as a student in the UItracold Quantum Gases research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Leticia Tarruell. 

Sabhyata Gupta, who is pursuing a MSc in Quantum Science and Technology at Universitat de Barcelona, joins ICFO as a student in the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Antonio Acín.

María Recasens Esparraguera, who is working towards a MSc in Quantum Science and Technology at Universitat de Barcelona, has joined ICFO as a student in the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Antonio Acín.

Laura Gerónimo Gómez, who is pursuing a MSc in Photonics from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, has joined ICFO as a student in the Organic Nanostructured Photovoltaics research group led by Prof Dr Jordi Martorell.

Pau Colomer Saus, who is working towards a MSc in Quantum Science and Technology at Universitat de Barcelona, has joined ICFO as a student in the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof Dr Antonio Acín.

Nelson Gastón Romano, who is an Assistant Researcher at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET), in Argentina, joins ICFO as a Visiting Scientist in the Super-resolution Light Microscopy & Nanoscopy Lab led by Dr Pablo Loza.
