ICREA Prof at ICFO Dr Jens Biegert joins Optica Board of Directors as Chair of the Meetings Council
Optica (formerly OSA), Advancing Optics and Photonics Worldwide, is the society dedicated to promoting the generation, application, archiving, and dissemination of knowledge in the field. Founded in 1916, it is the leading organization for scientists, engineers, business professionals, students, and others interested in the science of light. Optica’s renowned publications, meetings, online resources, and in-person activities fuel discoveries, shape real-life applications and accelerate scientific, technical, and educational achievement.
ICREA Prof at ICFO Dr Jens Biegert has recently begun his term on the Optica Board of Directors as elected Chair of the Meetings Council. After serving since 2014 on the Board of Meetings, he also joins the society’s Financing Council and its Strategic Planning Council. Having led the Board of Meetings during the recent COVID pandemic, in his role on the Meetings Council, he will put a specific strategic focus on networking aspects for the global optics and photonics community.
“Having been a member since my student days in the U.S.A., I genuinely appreciate the various opportunities and aspects that Optica provides. I accepted my current volunteer role since volunteers drive the society, and it is essential to promote the optics and photonics community through new ideas and formats that will help to reach more members in both academia and industry, as well as the future generations”.
